Rates & FAQs

How much will it cost?

The cost of translating a text is generally calculated according to the number of words in the original. I always tailor my rates to suit each project according to its subject area, urgency and complexity, so a specialised medical text required ASAP will cost more than a general text with no fixed deadline.

If your text is a scanned or handwritten document I’ll usually provide a per-page rate. Proofreading and revision services are charged by the hour.

Please note that my minimum fee for short jobs is £45 and that extra charges may apply for urgent work and for the translation of certain file formats.

I’m happy to accept payment via bank transfer or via PayPal. For new clients, payment is due on delivery or in advance if the project is large. After that, payment after 30 days is fine.

Email me and I'll provide a made-to-measure quotation for your project.

How long will it take?

Generally speaking, my translation output is between 2,000-3,000 words per day. This gives me time to carry out all the terminological research required, produce a good text in English, and proofread it carefully before sending it back. But turnaround time also depends on things like subject matter, complexity of the text and file format.

Email me to find out if I’m available and I’ll give you an accurate timescale.

What about certified translations?

As a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (MITI), I can also provide certified translations. These are often required by government bodies and academic institutions. If you need a translation of your degree certificate, academic transcript, birth certificate or other official documentation, please contact me.

Why only into English?

Like all professional translators, I only translate into my native language. This is to ensure that the finished product is an accurate reflection of the original and reads well as a text in its own right. If you’re looking for an English > Spanish translator, I can point you in the right direction.

Can't a machine translation program do it for me?

Machine translation is great for getting the gist of a text. But that’s all it's good for - the gist. If you want your translation to read like a translation, get a machine to do it for you, but if you want it to read like it's been written by a human, only a human will do!

What about CAT tools?

I use SDL Trados Studio translation memory software to ensure terminological consistency in my translations for repeat clients.
